About Richard Simon, Chicago
As a business owner, Richard Simon understands that his work is a lifestyle and not a job. At the end of the day, he doesn’t go home from his work but rather his day is one continuous flow of work. From the time he wakes up in the morning until he goes to bed at night, he is busy interacting with people.
Richard Simon started his career with United Service Companies in 1965. While still in school, he took a part-time position. This position served as a stepping stone for him to grow, eventually becoming CEO and President in 1985. Under his tenure, Rick Simon built the company up from only having a few accounts to having thousands of accounts throughout the country. He has secured their place as one of America’s fastest-growing staffing, cleaning and security companies in America.
United Service Companies is the Chicago-based parent company of U.S. Aviation Services Corp. Inc., United Temps Inc., United National Maintenance, United Security Services Inc., and United Maintenance Company.
Richard Simon is passionate about his work and the opportunity it provides him to watch his employees grow. Whenever possible, he fills management positions with current employees. Every day, he gets to watch his employees flourish in their professional lives and appreciates the chance he has to help them develop their skills.
Richard Simon is a Chicago-native, which is why he feels so passionate about giving back to and providing for his community. Through his company, he is an avid supporter of The United States Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, and the former Maryville Academy. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and the Chicago Police Foundation.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Rick Simon knows that once you join, you’re never truly out, which is why he is still involved in a philanthropic capacity. He joined the USMC in 1967 and was an active member until 1970. After finishing training, he completed an 18-month tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon returning to the country, he began working for Chicago law enforcement as a Member, Supervising Member and Command Member, serving the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, among other agencies.
Rick Simon has worked to join United Service Companies with law enforcement, starting with the inception of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Now 12-years-old, the organization serves hundreds of officers in the Chicago Police Department. They support the families of numerous fallen and catastrophically injured police officers. They help these families cover living and school expenses, as well as any other needs that arise, allowing these families to maintain the same quality of life. Over the years, he has also worked with other organizations that support families and children, such as the former Maryville Academy.
Richard Simon is also involved with some Chicago organizations supporting business and tourism. He has been an active member and chairman of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, now known as Choose Chicago, since 1980. He has also served on the boards for Gateway Green, Greater North Michigan Avenue Association, (now the Magnificent Mile Association), Friends of the Park, and The Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association.
